How to dunk – and other everyday science

This month's Preservation Trust/Museum lecture takes place on Thursday 14 May, when Dr Len Fisher will talk about ‘Science in Everyday Life – from Dunking Biscuits to Coping with Artificial Intelligence’. This will be an evening of guaranteed entertainment from the renowned Australian academic, author and  Bradford resident.

Len won the coveted IgNobel Prize in 1999 for his important work on dunking biscuits – and was awarded the medal of the Order of Australia for his contribution to science communication.

The lecture is at the United Church in St Margaret's Street. Doors open at 7pm for coffee and tea (and biscuits) before a 7.30pm start. Tickets (£8 for Trust and Museum members, £10 for non-members) are available on the door and also (cash only, please) at Ex Libris bookshop in The Shambles.

The lecture series continues through the summer: the next talk, on 11 June, will be given by Dan Farrell – technical lead at the Moulton Bicycle Company, and historian of the Moulton family and the rubber industry in Bradford – speaking about ‘Alex Moulton, engineer, his achievements and legacy’.

The talks take place on the second Thursday of the month, at the United church in St Margaret's Street.
