Talks Programme 2026

Devizes Assize Court – the new home of the Wiltshire Museum

Following the success of last year's summer lecture programme, we are once again joining forces with Bradford on Avon Museum to present a programme of lectures over the spring and summer.

The opening talk in this year's lecture programme takes place on Thursday 9 April, when Wiltshire Museum director David Dawson talks about ‘Devizes Assize Court – the new home of the Wiltshire Museum’. The £14.8 million Assizes for Devizes project will transform the Assize Court building, which has been derelict for decades, into a spectacular new home for the Wiltshire Museum.

The lectures, organised in conjunction with Bradford on Avon Museum take place on the second Thursday of the month, at the United Church in St Margaret's Street.

Doors open at 7pm for coffee and tea (and biscuits) before a 7.30pm start. Tickets (£8 for Trust and Museum members, £10 for non-members) are available on the door and also (cash only, please) at Ex Libris bookshop in The Shambles.

Subsequent lectures include Dr Len Fisher on ‘Science in Everyday Life – from Dunking Biscuits to Coping with Artificial Intelligence’, Dan Farrell on ‘Alex Moulton, engineer, his achievements and legacy’ and Alan Soldat on ‘The mystery of the Wansdyke’.

The talks take place on the second Thursday of the month, at the United church in St Margaret's Street.
